14.04.07 | Lladró introduces ReCyclos Magical by Bodo Sperlein

Lladró Re-Cyclos Magical is presented in Paris, Valencia and London

The German designer Bodo Sperlein has been chosen by Lladró to create Lladró Re-Cyclos Magical, an exclusive series of decor objects, lighting and jewelry. Sperlein takes fragments from Lladró pieces and reworks them to produce new elements in which the detail of the pieces are respected and even further underscored.

Nature is a subject matter in which Lladró is at home. For this reason Sperlein also decided to place it at the core of his innovative creations. All of them borrow from the forest and the magic of the animals and fantastic creatures living in it. As such, his ornaments are perfect for creating dreamlike, fantasy ambiences playing with light and shadows.

Lladró Re-Cyclos Magical is the second edition of Re-Cyclos, an artistic project by Lladró based on the development of unique works created using its figurines, endowing them with new meanings and readings.

Bodo Sperlein has designed some original creations breaking with Lladró’s traditional aesthetics. The artist maintains that by taking fragments of pieces as his starting point, the beauty and quality of detail characteristic of this brand are even further underlined.

Among other elements, the Bodo Sperlein collection includes a curtain made with fashion accessories from the Talismania collection, vases using fragments from other already existing ones by Lladró, a chandelier with scores of delicate butterflies hanging from it, centerpieces, wall lamps and haute couture jewelry. While they all contain details from various pieces, they acquire their own individual personality. For instance we have the horses’ heads from the Movement collection now transmuted
into stoppers for wine decanters.

Wings, insects, birds, flowers… everything is taken apart and reunited under a new vision and a new interpretation of Lladró work. Over 60 objects that will be presented in September at the world’s leading trade events:

Maison et Objet, Paris, 1st – 5th September.
Habitat, Valencia, 18th – 23rd September.
100% Design, London, 21st – 24th September.

Bodo Sperlein

Born in Germany in 1966, Bodo Sperlein gained his experience and developed his professional career in the United Kingdom. His work has always focused on the industrial possibilities of porcelain and ceramics, materials with which he has experimented on various occasions.

Sperlein has frequently used porcelain flowers made expressly by British artisans, thus maintaining a tradition almost extinguished in the UK. It was this fact that made Lladró think about working with this artist in the Re-Cyclos project, viewing his creation as being in perfect synchrony with the brand spirit. In fact, the union of Bodo Sperlein and Lladró in Re-Cyclos could well be seen as a true symbiosis.

In the last decade, this artist has exhibited his work in London, Paris, Vienna, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Milan, New York and Sao Paulo. Sperlein’s projects are based on interior design with modern yet at once warm lines, very much in tune with the spirit of Lladró porcelains.

Re-Cyclos

For the second year running, Lladró is promoting Re-Cyclos, a project casting a new gaze on already existing figurines, adopting a new function and a new message. Nothing is destroyed in Nature; everything is regenerated and evolves, and this is the concept behind the innovative creative proposal.

In 2005, the CuldeSac creative team got the Re-Cyclos project off to a start, designing geodes and crowns using Lladró Christmas decorations from previous years. The pieces included a spectacular lamp made with over two hundred porcelain balls.

Just like all Lladró works, the Re-Cyclos creations are the result of a painstaking artistic handmade process. From the initial sketches to the firing at high temperatures, each step is made by expert hands working under the direct supervision of the Lladró family. The result are pieces of great artistic perfection, telling stories in a unique language.

Lladró was founded by the brothers Juan, José and Vicente Lladró in 1953, and is currently present in more than 120 countries worldwide. The brand also has a network of its own boutiques in the world’s major cities.
