Sanderson launches Country Linens, Honfleurs Wallpapers and Veluti Weaves / January 2008
This January, Sanderson returns to the classic quintessential style for which it is so well known and loved, drawing inspiration from English country houses, parks and woodlands and the rich source of historic documents in the company archive.
Two stunning and co-ordinating collections incorporate organic floral and delicate toile linens alongside a range of complementary wallpapers, inspired by striking Jacobean block print documents. In addition, a sumptuous weave collection and a new selection of versatile plains and semi-plains complete a truly beautiful and comprehensive selection.
‘This season’s varied range of linens incorporate designs of typically English flora and fauna; 1920’s block prints, finely detailed toiles and classic florals. Our timeless wallpaper designs are a departure from the statement ‘feature wall’ designs to a more comfortable scale and range, from elegant trellis motifs to small scale florals and stripes. A variety of rich and subdued colours and differing textures contribute to these unique collections that truly epitomise English heritage and style.’
Rebecca Craig, Design Manager, Sanderson
True to the tradition instilled at the very heart of this typically English fabric house, the collections depict popular and iconic florals including horse chestnuts, azalea blossoms, poppies, roses and heathers. A range of colours from rich autumnal reds and fiery golds through to cooler blues and faded lilacs have been applied to, in some cases, centuries old designs. With the use of these subtle and more dramatic colour combinations alongside metallic highlights and graphic touches, the collections are endlessly appealing to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
Country Linens
The linens collection comprises eight classic designs, ranging from pure prettiness to flamboyant in style. The stylized leaves and flowers of ‘Amanpuri’, a typical 1920’s interpretation of a Jacobean embroidery, look entirely contemporary in the original colourings of khaki green, red and gold. A captivating design, ‘Beaufort’ is taken from Elizabethan embroideries and is truly charming in its naïve depiction of animals and insects in a forest landscape. Two majestic designs; ‘Pavia’ and ‘Abingdon’ feature dramatic horse-chestnut leaves and azalea blossoms respectively, using clever colour combinations to reproduce an original, antique feel. ‘Charlbury’ is a design full of joie de vivre, with lively poppies redrawn from a 19th century document whilst ‘Roseanna’ is pure English elegance; country house roses simply arranged against a diamond patterned background. ‘Elouise’ echoes the same classic elegance, depicting various English country flowers in the typical chintz style. Completing the collection, ‘Cornucopia’ features an elaborate scrolling pattern of leaves and flowers and the ‘horn of plenty’ motif from a 19th century archive print.
Honfleurs Wallpapers
The Honfleurs wallpaper collection uses traditional Victorian printing techniques to recreate a striking and distinctive ‘squeezed edge’ look on its delicate, autumnal designs. Intended to be used on four walls rather than one, these designs are perfect for use in a complete decorating scheme. Soft harmonious colours heightened with striking metallic highlights beautifully complement the fabric collection.
Honfleurs, depicting a leafy trellis simplified through the use of a single colour surface print, is a beautiful mix of traditional and contemporary design. The only coordinating design in the collection, ‘Elouise’, uses a 14 colour print to show a flamboyant pattern of garden flowers entwined in an elegant trail. Both printed by flexographic, ‘Anna Maria’ and ‘Amelie’ are taken from 18th century designs, achieving a fine brocade background on which delicate florals sprays and sprigs take effect. ‘Bethany’, a stripe design and ‘Jessica’, which shows the floral sprig as a single element, are both matching papers to Amelie. ‘Cornucopia’, the most contemporary design, has been developed from a 19th century cretonne and features elaborate, scrolling flowers and leaves translated as a pattern of dotted lines.
Velluti Weaves
Luxurious and durable, the sumptuous Velluti collection features three bold and contemporary designs woven in Italy and coloured in a rich palette of vibrant hues. Combinations range from vivid autumnal hues of plums and golds to neutral blends of ebony, slate and cream.
‘Velluti Stripe’, a multi-coloured stripe, has been designed to softly blend with sophisticated interiors and comes in beautifully graduated colour combinations. ‘Chinese Lanterns’, a bold large scale design depicting Chinese lantern fruits, is woven in two colours on a natural linen ground. ‘Toscana’ is a small-scale, geometric design which comes in a single colour. Its art deco inspired motifs perfectly complement the other two designs within the collection.
New Plains
Four new collections of inexpensive and versatile plains and semi-plains in a wide range of colourways are launching in January 2008.
‘Dante’ is an ottoman plain with a beautiful drape and a glowing, textural quality. The design is suitable for upholstery, as is ‘Regio’, a new velvet quality woven to give extremely good wear. ‘Lusso’ is both glamorous and practical, woven in natural yarns and glazed to a polished finish. ‘Galicia’ is a collection of two floral damask designs, woven in contrasting colours to create subtle highlights, imitating the appearance of a shot silk taffeta.
