01.09.07 | Sanderson launches Parchment Flowers, Oriental Poppy & Juno Collections

Sanderson is delighted to present three fresh and classically inspired collections for Autumn 2007; ‘Parchment Flowers’, ‘Oriental Poppy’ and ‘Juno’. These coordinated collections comprise stunning floral prints and jacquards, complementary
wallpapers and a versatile mix of stripes, check and plains, all of which have been expertly drawn and coloured in the Sanderson studio.

“This season we have designed a collection of classical botanical florals with just a hint of eastern influence to add a sense of drama. Varying scale, striking colour combinations and bold experimentation with printing technique and metallics have all contributed to the unique qualities of this timeless range of prints, jacquards and wallpapers.”

Rebecca Craig, Design Manger at Sanderson

Inspiration for the collections has been drawn from a mix of antique botanical engravings, paintings and other archival documents housed in the Sanderson archive and in decorative arts museums around the world. As a result, a diverse range of
flowers have been depicted including magnolias, poppies, wild flowers and ferns. Coloured in dusky pinks, mustard yellows and duck egg blues some designs reflect the watercolor tonality of the botanical drawings they have been inspired from while others feature more dramatic, eye-catching colour combinations. A beautiful range of plain, small scale and feature wallpapers with metallic and iridescent highlights complement the fabric collections.

Parchment Flowers Prints

The Parchment Flowers collection comprises nine designs which have been printed on a mix of glazed and plain cotton linen unions and one stunning linen embroidery. The collection encompasses a mix of bold, large scale designs and softer, smaller
scale designs.

‘Sweet Bay’ featuring a magnolia tree in full bloom with fabulous blossoms on a gently undulating stem and ’Moonflower’, a pretty design of morning glory entwined in an elegant trail, have both been beautifully printed upon a glazed cotton background.

‘Etchings and Roses’, which is printed on a glazed linen union, features three rare and beautifully engraved prints from Mulhouse which have been faithfully reproduced against a contrasting coloured background. In a similar engraved style but on a
simpler scale is ‘Frampton’, a trail of wild roses, which comes on an unglazed cotton.

‘Persian Poppy’ has taken inspiration from an Indian painting in the mogul style of an opium poppy and is printed upon glazed cotton. ‘Honesty’ depicts a bold, contemporary pattern of honesty leaves printed using an interesting technique of mixing pure dye with gold pigment, resulting in a rich and subtle dye bleed effect.

‘Grove Park’ is a design of magnolia flowers against a background of garden pavilions and oblongs of gold printed on a linen union and ‘Magnolia Embroidery’ is a pretty, single colour design on a fine quality linen.

‘Peveril’, featuring antique prints of wild flowers and ‘Parchment Flowers’, a delicate composition of ferns, gingko and daisies set against squares of parchment inspired by a set of original 19th century hand-coloured prints, are both printed on linen.

Parchment Flowers Wallpapers

The nine wallpapers within the Parchment Flowers collection are designed to coordinate perfectly with the print collection. The stunning ‘Magnolia Embroidery’ has been designed to match the fabric of the same name, delicately engraved to capture the effect of silk thread on a linen ground. ‘Sweet Bay’, ‘Frampton’ and ‘Etchings & Roses’ straight match with their namesake fabrics in the print collection, the latter including metallic highlights on certain colourways.

‘Honesty’ has been designed as a complementary wallcovering and features delicately sprayed stems of honesty leaves, some with a metallic print effect. There are two stand alone designs within the collection; ‘Japonica’, which features small over-lapping fan patterns, has been taken from an antique Japanese fabric woven with silk and gold thread. The design reflects the patterns in the roof tiles of the pavilions in ‘Grove Park’ but is versatile enough to complement any of the other fabrics in the
collection. ‘Rye Grass’ features rows of tiny, delicately painted leaves that have been painted in watercolour in vertical trails.

A complementary plain and stripe sit beautifully within the range; ‘Parchment Plain’, a paper intended to give the textural effect of hand-made watercolour paper and ‘Parchment Stripe’, which has been cleverly designed to look like wide stripes of
hand made paper laid over Parchment Plain.

Oriental Poppy

The Oriental Poppy weave collection of vibrant floral jacquards with graphic floral and striped coordinates is suitable for both upholstery and curtains, and features four exciting and versatile designs. ‘Persian Poppy’, taken from the same design
as the Persian Poppy print, is a dramatic multi-coloured design woven in viscose and cotton and comes in striking aubergine, orange, pink and navy colourways as well as more neutral combinations. ‘Oriental Poppy’ depicts huge open poppy flowers in an
exuberant arrangement, ‘Dahlia’ is a geometric, stylized floral and finally ‘Avena’ is a smart and versatile wide stripe.

Juno

The Juno collection consists of two versatile large-scale, multicoloured designs; ‘Juno Stripe’ and ‘Juno Check’ and a coordinating plain taffeta, ‘Juno Plain’. These lightweight polyester taffetas are perfect for curtains and accessories and come in a range of colours from infinitely useable cool naturals all the way through to luxurious rich jewels colourways.
